Destination #2: Twisties – A Serious Potato Co.
On Saturday, February 7th I ventured out to my second food truck destination. I again checked the Street Food app for food trucks that were open near me and chose Twisties A Serious Potato Co. because I love french fries and I had found out that the origin of these fries can be found in South Korea. This food truck sells spiral-cut, deep-fried potato skewers commonly known as tornado potatoes.
Potatoes on a stick is a street food that originated in South Korea. Interesting enough, the owners of this food truck are not from South Korea or came across this food while travelling like the owner of my first food truck destination. The owners are actually from Argentina and had seen and tasted this delicious treat at an Asian night market and from there decided to open a food truck with similar offerings.
When I asked the employee working there what the most popular flavour was, she said that it was sour cream & onion so I decided to try it along with a barbeque flavoured stick as that is my favourite seasoning for fries. Well, it turned out that the sour cream & onion flavour is popular for a reason because it ended up being my favourite of the two sticks I bought!
Another thing that I appreciated was their environmental consciousness as they had a sign asking customers to properly dispose of their sticks in order to avoid harming the local wildlife.
I recommend checking them out at White Rock beach. Having said that, there seems to be many competitors like Twisted Potato and Tornado Potato therefore it is quite easy to find a potato skewer truck on any given day.
