Destination #3: Yo-Bones BBQ

On Sunday, February 15th it was a beautiful sunny day (which we haven’t had very many of) so I checked the Street Food app and saw that Yo-Bones BBQ was open and was located at beautiful Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, so I decided to give it a try! Yo-Bones BBQ is a food truck that has been selling southern U.S. inspired barbeque for 6 years and has since turned the building in Burnaby that they use to prepare the food for their food truck into a restaurant which has been open for 2 years now. The owner and founder is Rick Bone (hence the name Yo-Bones) who has 30 years of experience in the food industry and in the Vancouver community. His focus on Southern BBQ stems from a desire to provide authentic, slow-cooked, comfort food that is popular in the Southern United States, such as smoked brisket, pulled pork, and ribs.

While I was there, I tried their pulled chicken tacos and their chili. I unfortunately didn’t like the tacos because of the type of barbeque sauce they coated the chicken in and the carrots in the slaw they topped them with. I did however like the chili, but still not enough to say that I would go back. In hindsight, these were probably bad order choice as it is not the food that they are know for like brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. Therefore if you decide to check them out, I would recommend ordering the true southern comfort foods that their inspiration stems from.
