Week 5 Reflection – Focused Education Resources

During the past couple of weeks, we have learnt a lot about Focused Education Resources (Focused Ed) starting with a presentation from Mike in our Week 5 EDCI 336 class who gave us an overview of what Focused Ed is, its value, as well as gave us a live tour of the site as well as some of the resources.

Focused Education Resources (Focused ED) is a British Columbia non-profit organization that provides, evaluates, and licenses K-12 print and digital educational materials. It supports educators by offering teacher resources, AI literacy tools, and professional learning opportunities that are designed and available to enhance curriculum delivery and foster collaboration by educators. From your school or district website there are quick access links to a Digital Classroom library of resources specific to that district, school, and teacher.

During Mike’s live demonstration of the site we looked at several resource such as 4 Canoes, Worldbook, and Twig + ClickView. Each of the resources directly align with the grade level and the specific curriculum you are teaching, all right at your fingertips and you know you can trust them as they have been researched, sourced, and approved by K-12 experts in the province.

I look forward to exploring these resources further myself and in next week’s PD sessions that take a closer look at some of the resources available to us.
